About First Place Family Center

First Place Family Center is a program of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County located in Eugene, Oregon. We serve homeless families with children under the age of 18. Last year we served 443 families with a total of 820 children. Our website is FirstPlaceFamilyCenter.org We are working together to find the most effective way to help homeless families again become contributing members of the community.

Welcome to First Place Family Center's new blog. We are working together to evolve better ways to help homeless families. Besides the services you might expect from a Center like ours, our overarching goal is to make the Center itself a transformative environment. We are doing this by refining a set of principles based on knowledge of how people change and heal.

The purpose of this blog is to share our ongoing experience and to elicit the wisdom of the larger community in our process.
